At some point in our lives we all wish we lived in world where everyone could do whatever they want without any consequences fulfilling the adage by Jean Paul Satre that human beings are doomed to freedom. Unfortunately, the reality is that we live in a world where every action we want to or not to take has consequences and does directly or indirectly have an impact on others, as such our actions require accepted social norms, rules, laws, traditions and values to be controlled. It is against this understanding that all human behavior must be guided by morals. Post Loan Approval Processes
In fulfilment of its first mandate, on 29th July, 2018, the Board provisionally approved names of students who will benefit from the 2018/19 loans. The provisional approval of the loans means that the loans will be subjected to other processes before coming up with final list of beneficiaries. The essence of this entry is to highlight the some of the processes that will be undertaken after the provisional approval of the 2018/19 loans.
In order to ensure transparency and improved targeting of the loans, the Board is encouraging students, college/university administrators, parents and the general public to assess the provisionally approved names of would be beneficiaries and provide feedback to the Board so as to inform the other processes.
Based on the feedback provided, the Board will work hand in hand with college/university administrators in conducting the vetting processes. Read full article.
PROVISIONAL APPROVAL OF 2018/2019 STUDENTS’ LOANS
As one of the efforts to increase access to higher education, the Government of Malawi established the Higher Education Students’ Loans and Grants Board (HESLGB) to facilitate financing of higher Education through provision of Loans and Grants to needy and deserving students in accredited public and private universities and colleges. In pursuant to this mandate, HESLGB on 29th June, 2018 provisionally approved student loans for the 2018/19 financial year.
HESLGB opened the 2018/19 loan application window from 1st April to 30th May 2018. During this period, HESLGB received a total of 13,908 (9,002 from male students and 4,906 from female students) loan applications from both public and private institutions of higher learning across Malawi. The number of loan applications represent a 13.13% increase from the 2017/18 loan applications. Read full article.

ANNOUNCING THE PROVISIONAL APPROVAL OF 2018/2019 STUDENTS LOANS
The Higher Educations Students Loans and Grants Board (HESLGB) is pleased to announce to accredited public and private universities and colleges, students studying and newly selected into these accredited universities and colleges, parents/guardians and the general public, that the Board has, today 29th of June, 2018 provisionally approved students’ loans for 2018/2019 Financial Year subject to further joint Loans’ Board and college/university vetting of the provisionally approved names.
The Board would like to thank the state president, Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika, who is the champion of higher education in Africa for his commitment and passion for higher education in Malawi as he directed that the allocation to the Students’ Loans be increased in 2018/19 budget by 100% (from MK4BN to MK8BN) in so doing allowing the Loans Board, for the first time to reach out to 91% of the students loans applicants as would be beneficiaries using MK6,830,566,500 (MK4,759,066,500 as tuition loan and MK2,071,500,000 as upkeep loan.
